So, while I was there I got an extra-tight #00000 USMC style flattop...yep, the sides and back are completely bare. Feels GREAT, too. A little sweat and the slightest breeze, and it just feels wonderful. I just need to get it tanned, and in the process avoid a sunburn. THIS is a haircut for summer! Anyway. This morning I got up and already had unsightly stubble, so out came the Norelco. Cleaned it up. And you know what? It's very nearly blade smooth, on a single pass! Works great! And, unlike when I first used the rotary on my face, I have no razor burn or bumps. Anyone else have some tips for those of us who embrace the bare scalp? With this heat, I may not have hair on my head for a few more months! Heck, I may keep it this short for winter, too! :) -- Chuck Knight

Posts: 8 (08/05/11 10:10) Administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, apparently there is a hesitance on the part of the members to post in this thread. Not sure why...shaving is shaving. But I've been contacted by PM and email, and it seems a popular topic. Don't worry guys, I checked with Jim and head shaving topics ARE allowed. Even says so in the rules. USMC horseshoe flattop. I've kept maintaining the sides and back with my Norelco, and it is blade smooth. The Norelco works even better on my scalp, than it does on my face...and that's saying something! As it grows back I'm letting it come lower and lower each day, so as it grows in it'll look like a nicely tapered fade...little shorter at the hairline, and a little longer up top. But I've got to tell you, my car said it was 117F earlier this week and this haircut is working GREAT for me. I may keep it skin tight all year round. This feels fantastic! And, my beloved Norelco is keeping it neat.

I have yet to take it down slick, but I swore I'd never do a comb over or anything to try to cover it up. About 2 years ago I started taking my Wahl trimmers with a 2 guard all over. Lord only knows how much I've saved from the barber shop. What hair I do have grows so fast I had to get it cut often. I started with male pattern baldness receding hairline. Lost it right where they tell to quit wearing a baseball hat. It receded around and got a little thinner on top but still some hair there, but left this little tuft up front that looked awful. There really wasn't anyway I could style that little piece of hair without it looking like a HariKrishna selling roses at the airport. My Dad's an old Army Ranger and he wouldn't do a combover but has shaved his head slick for about 15 years now. I'm just afraid of that final deal of taking it slick. It would be so much easier taking it slick. I have a lot of thick, coarse hair in the back and on the sides, so when you don't take it slick you have a neck line and over your ears to worry about. My hair is so blonde, especially in the summer, it's almost transparent that short. LOL! Still scared though. Brad

The first time I shaved the sides and back, it was a little scary, but the Norelco kept the demarcation line perfectly blended. Since my hair is in a flat, I have a fair amount left on top...but the sides and back are kept bare, when fresh. Amazingly easy. When I started shaving the landing strip too, THAT was scary. I'm loving the smoothness. Heck, technically I miss the smoothness, since I only shave it for a short while. It's been a few weeks now, and I've got hair again...I can only keep it shaved for about a week, before it starts looking like a mohawk. In fact, it's getting close to the time to go back and get my flat tightened up! I'll probably do it next week. Last year, had anyone told me I'd be shaving any part of my head, I'd have called them crazy. Now, I'm hooked.

The hair is not nearly as course and hard back there so no worries of ingrowns. The Norelco seems to shave closer on my neck than my foils. If I decide to go slick, I'll use my Norelco for my head. Sides, back, and top are still shiny smooth thanks to my trusty Norelco. Gads it looks slick, freshly shaved. I did get a little bit of razor burn at the base of my neck, tonight. Got to watch that.

Posts: 1 (10/08/11 07:08) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	been shaving my head for about 8 years now, and have found that the razors that work best on my bearded face do not always work best on my head. for example, the la-63 Panny works very close on the face, but does not do as well on my head. An Arcitc that i tried worked pretty well on my face was almost useless on my head (the heads flexed in the wrong direction - away from the contours of my head- so i returned it. my Pulsonic worked best on my head. i also have an old Spectra that Mike at the Shaver shop in Evanston ILL recommended to me - a great shop worth visiting if you are ever in town. I shave it all completely smooth, and like the look and feel, but require a hat in the winter- brrr. would love to hear more about people's succes with eletrics and smooth scalps! Regards, mark

The Norelco does WAY better on my head...the triple head tracks the contours of my skull most efficiently. I can even maintain the fade at the edge of my flattop. I would have thought that the Panasonic would have been better...but it isn't, for that purpose. I just have to maintain a light touch with it. Panasonic for face, Norelco for scalp.
